Discover more from Life is a Sacred Text
Y’all.
Substack just did a brilliant thing. They took this network of millions of people who write, read and discuss longer-form writing and— gave us the shorter-form space that many of us have been seeking since a certain Bird-app was taken over by a man intent on lighting it on fire, colonnade by colonnade.
Notes is a “new space on Substack for us to share links, short posts, quotes, photos, and more.”
I absolutely will be using it as a place for the flotsam of my brain, questions I’m chewing on, random observations, cool things I stumble on, and other things I think y’all might dig that aren’t right for a whole post or thread. Basically: any of you who follow me on Twitter can probably guess how I’ll be using it.
I’m already there. JOIN ME. Let’s make this the place where the fun happens, eh?
How to join
Head to substack.com/notes or find the “Notes” tab in the Substack app. As a subscriber to Life is a Sacred Text , you’ll automatically see my notes. Feel free to like, reply, or retweet share them! (You can now also “restack” all of my posts, so if there are things you’d like to share out that way, or share with a question starter of your own, or etc, know it’s an option.)
Obviously you can also write notes of your own.
I hope this becomes a space where every member of the Life is a Sacred Text community can share even more of your thoughts, ideas, and the quotes that especially strike you from the things we're reading on Substack and beyond.
If you encounter any issues, you can always refer to the Notes FAQ for assistance. Looking forward to seeing you there!

I realize, as things go, I am one subscriber and who really cares what I think. Having said that, I am profoundly disturbed by the performance of Substack’s CEO in an interview with Nilay Patel. Patel put a simple yes/no question to him: if someone wrote notes advocating for less brown people in the US, would that violate TOS and would Substack do something about it. The CEO, visibly uncomfortable on camera, would not say yes even when made aware that every other social media CEO said yes to that question. What most people take away from that interaction is that Substack is interested in revenue no matter where it comes from. I can’t say, but what I can say is that Substack is clearly not looking out for marginalized communities *first.*
Well, here I am. I keep trying these platforms, but my people are still wandering in the musky wilderness. Thanks for your guidance.
